Howdy, folks!
My wife and I are road-tripping through God's Country, with a stop in Denver, CO, and at Red Rocks Amphitheater (30 minutes away from the city) to take in the awe-inspiring beauty and listen to a band I had never heard of before—Atmosphere.
Actually, it was actually my stepson’s suggestion to see the band. He drove with his faithful boxer named Briley from Austin, TX, to join us.
Hip-hop is not exactly my type of music, but Atmosphere’s beats got under my skin and…
…for some reason… reminded me of POP, the album by U2 from the 90s (strange how the mind works), which my stepson had never heard of.
IMHO, POP may be U2’s best album (save for Achtung, Baby). Everyone loves The Joshua Tree, but I think that album carries the weight of its self-importance too heavily, like a monument aware of its own grandeur.
Give me the electronic irreverence and poignancy of POP, and I’m a happy camper.
On to Grand Lake, CO. More dispatches from the road coming soon. Stay tuned!
Thanks for reading and being a subscriber. Your support is much appreciated.
